My Thoughts

The embodiment of technology as a savior throughout the World’s Fair obscured one major problem. With new technologies being introduced into the marketplace, each has their own set of issues and problems. I am reminded of Issac Newton’s laws of understanding the Universe as it pretains to motion. “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” can be extrapolated out to the utopian vision of the World’s Fair. What happens when we introduce all of these advancements?

The belief that technology can cure all problems is one that is obscured in naivete. Now that one has all of this supposed free time, what does one do? What kind of impacts do the production methods used to create these products do to the environment, the people creating the products? What could happen if one become dependent on technology, and when that technology fails, what is the result? The antithesis of technology was never covered in the exhibitions, and to that result did not present a complete picture of what to come.
