Positivism: The Belief in a Better Tomorrow
“Technology as Savior” was the main theme that connected all of the events and exhibitions at the World’s Fair. The fair was broken down into many zones in with the attendee could visit, with each having their own positive theme spun around them. The main iconic symbol of the fair, the “Trilon and Perisphere” was an attempt to show the embodiment of perfection.
In the “Government Zone”, themes revolved around the American system of democracy. As the fair fell within the 150th anniversay of George Washington’s inauguration in New York City. To this, it was a celebration of the Constitution and how it was “the model” of a perfect democracy.
The “Technology Zone” was meant to display themes around how technology could improve your life and increase your leisure and happiness. Technology was a panacea to all your ills. Visions of the future and how electronics, telecommunications, transportation would make vast improvements to the world infrastructure. To this, the message of positivism was clear, “Techology is savior”.
